The Week in Reviews: ReadLove Recap For the Week Beginning September 29th

Another week has come and gone here at ReadLove ! Here’s what you may have missed!

It was all about traveling back in time this week, though before we stepped into our time machine, we gave away a signed copy of T. A. Barron’s Atlantis Rising. And then we were whisked off to 1904, where we spent a busy few days with American Girl, Samantha, in her new, multiple-ending book, The Lilac Tunnel. After that, for Throwback Thursday Jen ventured into her archives and pulled out a 5 Heart review of The Penderwicks, a classic from 2005 that should be on everyone’s reading list in the present!

The many paths the reader can opt to go down teach lessons about honesty, trust, and friendship, and remind us to count our blessings and stop taking them for granted. When we do, we realize like Unnamed Girl that we are much better off than we tend to think!  [Read more…]

Kids Corner: The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall

5 of 5 Hearts. A Beautifully Written Modern Classic. The first in a series about the family Penderwick, The Penderwicks is that rare kids book for readers of all ages. In atmosphere, story, and style, it sits proudly among the best of children’s literature from bygone days. If this one has escaped your reading list or that of your child’s, wait no longer to put it at the top!  [Read more…]
