Joy Synopsis

Iesodo (YAY-sa-doe) is a wise white dove whose name means “The Way of Jesus.” He and his feathered friends bring your favorite New Testament stories to life in a whole new way including this special re-imagining of the Nativity story. Let your heart take flight and tweet along to holiday carols and all-new songs!

Festivities are in full swing as the flock prepares to celebrate Iesodo’s birthday! The Cypress Tree is decked out with holly berries and excitement is in the air. Everyone gathers as Rocky shares the incredible story of Iesodo’s birth.

Series Focus

Iesodo and his friends live in the Holy Land, in a beautiful Cypress Tree on the shores of a vast Lake (or as we know it, the Sea of Galilee). These birds are an unlikely group of friends, and though they have their differences, they have one thing in common: since they met Iesodo, their lives have never been the same. Now they’re out to spread his message of hope to the entire bird world.

My Review

Iesodo’s slogan is “Where Fun and Faith Take Flight”. That succinctly describes these high-quality animated videos. Each previous release in the series, Believe, Love, and Faith, presented two engaging, Bible-based lessons for children that use music and animation to bring life to the words and message of Jesus in a whole new way. This time around, the focus is on the Nativity story. Iesodo’s friends are gearing up for a birthday bash when Rocky tells the story of Iesodo’s birth. There are appearances by all the major characters, Joe (Joseph), Molly (Mary), Harold (Herod), the shepherds, and the wise men. The popular carol, “We Three Kings” (pictured on the DVD cover), is given new feathers with the wise men being represented by three royal owls riding across the desert astride huge turtles. The wise men bring word of the birth of a king to Harold the peacock, who is a suitably villainous representation of King Herod.

The music on this disc is as engaging as ever. As always, bonus features are included: Pastor and Co-Producer, Tim Timmons, shares his thoughts in “Bible Connection with Pastor Tim”; “Christmas at Natalie’s Nest” lets us hear from the Producer mom who started the series; and finally there are Bible verses and a Christmas sing-a-long. Parents and Sunday School teachers will want to check out the Iesodo website for a discussion guide and other interactive resources.

It’s been abundantly clear from the start that the creators of the Iesodo series take care to provide top-notch animated and musical productions for children and families that not only entertain but edify. You can’t go wrong with Iesodo DVDs. Snatch one up and see for yourself! And don’t miss Forgiveness, the new release coming in March.
